Reshaping the Future of Senior Living
When Teresa Steinfatt owned and operated a home care franchise, a significant portion of her business came from senior living providers. The HomeCare Advocacy Network is reshaping the future of senior living with high-quality care, and a priority of always putting you first.
“When I owned my business, most providers didn’t offer home care – they still don’t,” Steinfatt said. “When families inquire about home care services, they have to refer them to outside agencies, like the one I owned. Of course, I was grateful for the business, but I always felt like they were missing an incredible opportunity by not offering home care services themselves.”
Now Vice President of Business Performance for the HomeCare Advocacy Network (HCAN), Steinfatt is helping senior living providers establish their own home care divisions – so they can compete with, instead of partner with, home care agencies in their communities.
“Senior living providers have a passion for service. They’re already in the business of helping seniors, but that doesn’t mean they know how to effectively and efficiently deliver home care,” Steinfatt said. “When you’re sending a caregiver eight miles off-campus to work with a client, that’s very different than sending an employee down the hall to take care of a resident.”
As a franchise partner, HCAN experts provide the training, structure, and system support needed to build a home care division that’s separate from, but complementary to, the provider’s current service offerings.
“We have a proven home care model,” Steinfatt said. “When senior living providers plug into our system, they don’t have to start from scratch. More importantly, they don’t have to learn the hard lessons that often come with building a successful business – because we’ve already learned them.”
With HCAN’s support, senior living providers can establish important relationships with families before their senior loved ones move into a community – perhaps while they’re on a waiting list.
“The vast majority of families will look at home care first. They want to keep mom or dad at home for as long as possible,” she said. “When senior living providers are able to deliver home care services, they’re able to connect with families early on in their senior care journey. Ideally, the provider will be with them every step of the way – from just a few hours of care a week to an eventual move into their community.”
With more than 10,000 people turning 65 every day, Steinfatt says there’s never been a better time for senior living providers to start delivering care beyond the walls of their communities.
“At HCAN, we believe senior living could become the largest provider of home care in the next 10 – 15 years,” she said. “We believe we can help them overtake the market, and we’re really excited about that.”
