Challenges Faced by Seniors Aging in Place

Do your older loved ones have everything they need to remain in their home as they age?

According to a new study, the answer is probably no.

The study, conducted by Gallup and West Health, showed 60% of Americans agree that more needs to be done to improve the availability of health and social services in their community in order for residents to live independently as they age.

Essential Resources for Aging in Place

“The need is urgent. In just 5 short years, one in five adults will be age 65 or older – and they will have unique healthcare, social and economic needs.” said Sierra Goetz, co-founder and operations director at HomeCare Advocacy Network (HCAN). “As home care providers, we are rapidly expanding our franchise network so that we can help more seniors age safely and independently in their homes.”

In-Home Support Services

  • Companionship – emotional support for seniors who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation.
  • Light housekeeping – vacuuming, dusting, changing bed linens, laundry and clearing clutter.
  • Meal preparation – grocery shopping and helping plan/prepare healthy, nutritious meals.
  • Medication reminders – assisting with medication management to ensure the right doses are taken at the right time.
  • Transportation – driving clients to and from appointments, errands, shopping, recreational activities and more.
  • Personal care – assisting with bathing, grooming, dressing and toileting.
  • Dementia care – allowing clients to remain in a familiar environment, instead of moving to a senior living community.

Creating Personalized Care Plans

“At HCAN, we work very closely with families to develop care plans that meet their senior loved ones’ unique needs,” Goetz said. “Whether it’s for a few hours a week or around-the-clock, we can help their loved ones age safely in their homes, while giving family members peace of mind.”
